DANCE PROGRAM AUDITION DATE

WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 29th 5pm-9pm

Thank you for your interest in the HSHS Modern Dance Program for the 2012-2013 school year.  Due to the popularity of the program, unfortunately there is not enough space to accommodate all those who request the courses of this program.

All returning students (entering their 2nd semester of dance or more) MUST audition for placement into the program each year

New students to HSHS enter into the Modern I class regardless of prior training/ability unless they transfer from another Wake County High School Dance Program.  Students are only allowed to register for ONE semester their first year with the program unless they attend the audition and are approved for full year participation.

Over 100 students request the Modern I course each year.  Enrollment in the Modern I elective is limited to 80 students.  Priority is given primarily to rising Freshman then Sophomores, followed by Juniors and Seniors.  Upperclassman with dance career interests are strongly encouraged to attend the audition to help secure placement.

Students should bring a writing utensil with them to fill out a quick questionnaire and wear appropriate dancewear as listed below.  They will be taught a movement phrase and given time to practice during the first hour of the audition time.  Beginning at 6pm they will perform in small groups infront of a panel of judges.  Students must be prepared to remain the ENTIRE time (9pm) as many will be needed for callbacks.  Dancers should report to the dance studio as early as 4:30 to get their number, fill out paperwork and begin stretching.  The instruction will take place in the studio.  Auditions will be held on the stage and are open for parents/visitors for viewing.

Appropriate audition attire includes:

SOLID colored leotard

SOLID colored "Cami" or TIGHT tank top

SOLID colored footless dance tights or form fitting "yoga"/work out pants (no baggy sweats)

Hair MUST be pulled back from face and up off the neck in ponytails/braids.
